So far you have learned the basics of playing 21 anywhere in the world. You have been shown how to play against every situation except when you get an ace. For example, if you are dealt ace and 2, you have either 3 or 13; with an ace and 8, you have 9 or 19, and two aces give you 2 or 12. These are called soft hands. When you're dealt an ace and another card, immediately make a mental note of both possible values.
The next step is to use common sense of gambling . If you have ace-7, ace-8, or ace-9 (ace-10 is automatic blackjack), it would be sheer stupidity to ask for a hit because you are already assured of at least 18,19, or 20.Why chance ruining your hand with a hit if you already have a good one? There are some soft hands you must hit, regardless of what the dealer has showing. They are ace-2 (3 or 13), ace-3 (4 or 14), ace-4 (5 or 15), ace-5 (6 or 16), and ace-6 (7 or 17). You must hit these hand sat all times. You cannot bust the first hit regardless of what card you get.

Whenever you hit a soft hand with a 9 or 10, you automatically have a hard hand. What you do next depends on the dealer's face card. If he has a 7 to 10 or ace face up, you must hit your 15 until you reach 17 or better. If he has a 2 to 6 showing, you stop. The only soft hand that differs from standard playing rules is the soft 17 (ace-6). I did say earlier that 17 or above is a stopping hand, 10 you might think that you would not hit a soft 17. Then, I was referring to a hard 17 so as not to confuse you any more than you already were 17 and 18 are the worst stopping hands you can get. If you had 17 or 18 each time, you would eventually lose your money. There are 36 cards out of 52-card deck that will bust a hard 17 hand.
